Vinyl Floor Survey

There are many different types of Vinyl floors with many different manufacturers requiring various methods of stripping, sealing and maintenance services.

We carry out a survey and take photos of the floor to determine its type, size, location and levels of cleaning and maintenance required. Once we have collated all this information with our standard pricing schedule we will forward you our quotation detailing our cleaning and maintenance process.

Vinyl Floor Cleaning

Vinyl floors are favoured over all other kinds of flooring materials in high-traffic areas because of its low cost, durability and ease of maintenance, Vinyl tiles have a high resilience to abrasion and impact damage and can be repeatedly refurbished with strippers and new emulsion polish coats, Vinyl is mainly used in commercial and public buildings such as hospitals, schools, canteens and retail shops.

Vinyl flooring can be manufactured to resemble more expensive types of flooring like stone, wood and concrete and comes in various formats including cushioned vinyl, vinyl tile and strip contract flooring which includes safety flooring.

The main problems we see with vinyl floors are that the surface gets dirty, stained, scratched, scuffed with possible damage to the original surface.

Cleaning process

There are three main cleaning and maintenance processes.

  • Spray cleaning & burnishing
  • Scrub cleaning
  • Strip & seal

The condition of the floor will determine the cleaning process, dirty floors can be spray cleaned or spray burnished to clean the existing seals followed by new seal coats, floors in poor condition with worn seals will require stripping to remove the old seal ready for to receive a new seal coat.

We provide the following services

  • Spay cleaning
  • Floor scrubbing & stripping
  • Floor buffing
  • Spray burnishing
  • Floor sealing & polishing
Linoleum (Lino) is a floor covering made from renewable materials such as solidified linseed oil, pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate.

Despite losing popularity to vinyl flooring in the 1960’s and 70’s, Linoleum has returned because it is made of renewable organic materials, with a wide range of colours and design options such as borders and feature panels, it has become widely used in domestic installations, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms.

The main problems we see with linoleum floors are the same as vinyl floors, the surface gets dirty, stained, scratched, scuffed and damaged.

Linoleum Floor Cleaning process

Depending on the condition of the floor dictates the cleaning process, if the floor is dirty the floor can be burnished to clean the existing seal.

Adding additional coats of emulsion polish will keep the floor from wearing and produce a polished finish.

If the floor is in a bad condition and it’s time to strip the floor to remove the old polish and apply a base coat seal followed by polish coats.

Rubber flooring is very popular these days because it’s tactile, flexible, warm and soft and comes in a range of colours in both tile or sheet formats.

Suitable for a wide range of contract and residential installations, rubber flooring has many practical benefits that
make it suitable for a wide range of applications.

Rubber flooring provides good thermal insulation and acoustic absorption and is resistant to both water and cigarette burns, has good slip resistance, antistatic and anti-bacterial properties.

The main problems we see with rubber floors are that the surface soiled, stained, scratched, scuffed and damaged.

Safety flooring has been manufactured to incorporate slip-resistant properties and is often made of PVC (vinyl) with semi-precious stone particles or aluminium oxide grains in the composition of the floor to provide slip resistance which meets Health and Safety requirements in certain public places like toilet and wet rooms or areas that may prove to have a possible slip hazards.

The main problems we see with safety floors are that the surface gets soiled, stained, scratched, scuffed and damaged.

Safety Floor Cleaning process

This floor does not require sealing or polish coats and can be cleaned with floor degreaser, deodorizers and disinfectants.

Conductive floors are made of PVC (Vinyl) and found in places where a buildup of static electricity could be dangerous such as operating theatres, areas with computers and electronic equipment.

The manufacturer incorporates black carbon or copper strips into the flooring material which dissipates the static electricity.

The main problems we see with these floors are that the surface gets soiled and scuffed.

Conductive Floor Cleaning process

This type of floor needs to be cleaned with the manufacturer’s directions and specifications, moped/scrubbed with a neutral detergent, it should never be cleaned with soap, gel or maintainers and it should never be sealed, polished or burnished.
