Genuine restoration project · Epsom

About this marble restoration project

This marble floor, extending throughout the kitchen, dining room and hallway of a property in Epsom, Surrey, had gradually become dull, worn and lifeless. The marble had lost much of its original polished finish, with particularly heavy etching around the kitchen cooking area, along with light scratches, staining and general wear across the floor.

The owners wanted to restore the marble rather than replace it, bringing back the clean, highly polished appearance it originally had.

We began the marble floor restoration with a thorough deep clean of the marble tiles and grout lines. This removed ingrained dirt, residues and contamination that had accumulated through everyday use.

Kitchen and dining areas can be particularly demanding for marble flooring. Food and drink spills, grease, acidic substances and unsuitable cleaning products can all affect natural marble, causing staining, dull patches and etch marks that normal cleaning cannot remove.

Once the floor and grout had been thoroughly cleaned, we began diamond honing and skimming the marble floor using professional diamond abrasives.

This process removes a microscopic layer from the surface of the stone, allowing us to eliminate light scratches, etch marks, stains and worn areas rather than simply trying to disguise them. Particular attention was given to the heavily etched areas around the cooking section of the kitchen.

We worked methodically across the kitchen, dining room and hallway to create a smooth and consistent surface ready for polishing.

Once the honing process was complete and the imperfections had been removed, we began diamond polishing the marble. The floor was polished through a series of progressively finer diamond grit stages, with each stage further refining the surface and gradually increasing the clarity, reflection and shine.

After completing the diamond polishing stages, we powder polished the marble to further enhance its appearance. This final polishing process produced a crystal-clear, mirror-like gloss, bringing out the natural colour, pattern and character of the marble while dramatically improving light reflection throughout the kitchen, dining room and hallway.

Once we were satisfied with the polished finish, we applied a professional protective stone sealer. The sealer helps protect the newly restored marble against staining and everyday contamination while making ongoing cleaning and maintenance easier.

The complete marble floor cleaning, honing, polishing and sealing process was carried out by our two-man team and completed in just two days.

The result was a dramatic transformation, taking the marble from a dull, worn and heavily etched floor back to a highly polished, near-new appearance with a brilliant reflective finish.

This marble floor restoration project was completed in Epsom, Surrey. We also provide professional marble floor cleaning, diamond honing, polishing and restoration services throughout the surrounding areas, including Cobham, Dorking and across Surrey.
