About this marble restoration project
This large marble floor extended throughout the kitchen, lounge, dining room and entrance hall of a property in Cheam, Surrey. Over the years, the marble had become dull, dirty and had lost much of its original shine.
The kitchen area was particularly affected, with numerous etch marks, stains and dull patches caused by food and drink spills over the years. The customer explained that no matter how many times she mopped the floor, it still looked dirty and tired.
This is a common problem with worn marble flooring. Once the polished surface has become etched and damaged, normal mopping and household cleaning products cannot restore the original shine. The surface of the marble itself needs to be professionally honed and polished.
****Deep Cleaning the Marble** Tiles and Grout**
We began the marble floor restoration with a thorough deep clean of the tiles and grout lines throughout the kitchen, lounge, dining room and entrance hall.
This removed the ingrained dirt, residues and contamination that regular mopping had been unable to remove, giving us a clean surface to begin the restoration process.
Special attention was given to the kitchen and other high-traffic areas where the marble and grout had accumulated the most dirt and staining.
**Diamond Honing to Remove Etch Marks and Stains**
Once the marble floor had been thoroughly cleaned, we began the diamond honing process.
Using professional diamond abrasives, we honed the surface of the marble to remove the stains, etch marks, dull areas and other imperfections that had developed over the years.
The kitchen required particular attention because food and drink spills had caused significant etching around the main working and cooking areas.
Rather than simply trying to clean these marks from the surface, diamond honing removes a microscopic layer of the marble, allowing us to restore a smooth and consistent finish.
**Diamond Skimming and Refining the Marble**
After the initial honing stages, we continued diamond skimming and refining the marble using progressively finer grades of diamond abrasives.
Working systematically through the kitchen, lounge, dining room and entrance hall allowed us to create a consistent finish across the entire floor.
As we progressed through the finer diamond grades, the clarity and natural character of the marble began to return, preparing the surface for the final polishing process.
**Powder Polishing for a Glass-Like Finish**
Once the diamond work was complete, we professionally powder polished the marble.
This final polishing stage brought out the natural colour and character of the stone and produced the deep, glass-like polished finish the customer wanted.
The transformation was significant. The previously dull and lifeless marble was restored to a bright, highly reflective finish, completely changing the appearance of the kitchen, lounge, dining room and entrance hall.
**Sealing and Protecting the Restored Marble Floor**
After achieving the required polished finish, we applied a professional stone sealer to the marble.
The sealer helps protect the newly restored floor from stains and everyday wear and tear, while making routine cleaning and maintenance easier for the customer.
Our two-man team completed the full marble floor cleaning, honing, diamond polishing, powder polishing, and sealing process in three days.
The finished floor transformed from a dull, dirty, heavily etched surface into a clean, smooth, highly polished marble floor with a beautiful glass-like shine.
We completed this marble floor restoration project in Sutton, Surrey. We also provide professional marble floor cleaning, honing, polishing and restoration services throughout the surrounding areas, including Banstead, Epsom and across Surrey.
