This marble floor in Woking, Surrey, had lost its original shine and had become dull and lifeless. The floor extended throughout the kitchen, dining area, small corridors, two cloakrooms and the main entrance hall of the property.
Unfortunately, we had mislaid the original photos showing the dull and lifeless condition of the marble before restoration, so this album mainly shows the floor during the restoration process and after polishing. The difference was significant, with the finished photos showing just how much clarity and shine could be brought back into the marble.
The owner was particularly frustrated because no matter how often she cleaned and mopped the marble, it never looked as good as it should. Like many of our clients with worn marble floors, she had reached the point where she regretted having the stone installed. Fortunately, the marble didn't need replacing – it simply needed professional restoration to bring back its original appearance.
****Deep Cleaning the Marble** Tiles and Grout**
We began by thoroughly deep cleaning the marble tiles and grout lines to remove ingrained dirt, residues and contamination that normal mopping could no longer remove.
This gave us a clean surface to begin the marble restoration process.
**Honing Out Etch Marks and Stains**
The next stage was to hone the marble to remove the etch marks, stains and dull areas that had developed through everyday use.
Etching physically affects the surface of marble, which is why repeated cleaning won't restore the shine. Professional honing and polishing are required to refine the stone and restore the damaged surface.
****Diamond Polishing the Marble Floor****
Once the etch marks and stains had been addressed, we progressively diamond polished the marble using increasingly finer grades of specialist diamond abrasives.
We then powder polished the floor to produce a deep, high-gloss finish and bring back the natural clarity and shine of the marble.
Finally, the restored marble was professionally sealed to help protect it against staining and make ongoing maintenance easier.
The transformation made a huge difference throughout the kitchen, dining area, corridors, cloakrooms and main entrance, restoring the bright, polished appearance the customer had originally wanted from her marble floor.
