Deep cleaning removes grease, soap residue and embedded contamination that can make stone look dull or lifeless.
Professional marble and limestone worktop and vanity top cleaning, repairs, diamond honing, polishing and sealing across Esher, Weybridge, Guildford, Cobham, Oxshott, Woking, Leatherhead, Epsom, Reigate and surrounding Surrey locations.
We restore natural-stone kitchen worktops, islands, countertops and bathroom vanity tops in larger private homes, period properties, contemporary residences and commercial premises.
Marble and limestone are sensitive to acidic spills and unsuitable cleaning products. Food, drink, cosmetics, soap residue and daily use can leave worktops and vanity tops dull, stained or uneven, while worn sealers allow moisture and dirt to penetrate more readily.
Acidic substances—including lemon juice, wine, vinegar and limescale remover—can react with natural stone and create pale, cloudy etch marks that ordinary cleaning cannot remove.
We assess the stone before recommending the appropriate combination of cleaning, limescale removal, repair, diamond honing, polishing and sealing. The goal is the best practical finish for your particular surface, rather than a standard treatment applied to every job.
Deep cleaning removes grease, soap residue and embedded contamination that can make stone look dull or lifeless.
Diamond honing can reduce dull spots, light scratches, etching and uneven surface wear.
Suitable chips, small cracks and damaged edges can often be repaired before final refinishing.
An appropriate impregnating sealer reduces absorbency and supports easier routine cleaning.
Marble and limestone worktops, tables, countertops and bathroom vanity units are naturally beautiful, but everyday use can gradually damage their appearance.
Because these stones are calcium-based, acidic substances such as lemon juice, vinegar, wine, fizzy drinks and many bathroom cleaners can react with the surface. This causes pale, cloudy or dull patches known as etch marks. Water, toiletries, cosmetics, cooking oils and other liquids may also leave stains, rings and discoloured areas.
Common problems include:Cleaning alone cannot remove genuine etching or surface damage. These marks must be carefully honed out using professional diamond abrasives.
We begin by assessing the stone and identifying whether each mark is a surface etch, scratch or absorbed stain. Stains may require specialist treatment or a poultice before the refinishing work begins.
The surface is then honed through carefully selected diamond grades. This removes etch marks, rings, light scratches and damaged material while creating a smooth, consistent finish across the entire area.
Once the defects have been removed, we continue through progressively finer diamond-polishing grades. This restores the stone’s clarity, depth and natural sheen. Where the type and condition of the stone allow, a specialist polishing powder is used for the final stage, producing a rich, glass-like or mirror-polished finish.
The polishing process enhances the marble or limestone’s natural colours, veining and patterns, bringing depth and character back to the surface.
Our restoration process can transform a dull, scratched and etched surface into a clean, even and beautifully refined feature once again. Kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity units, tables, countertops and other natural-stone surfaces can often be restored in place, avoiding the disruption and expense of replacement.
The result is a surface that looks revitalised, feels smooth and complements the room as it was intended to—often with an appearance close to new.
For some varieties of limestone, a soft honed or satin finish may be more appropriate than a high-gloss polish. We select the finish that best suits the stone, its location and the customer’s preference.
Not every worktop or vanity top requires every stage. We inspect the stone, joins, edges, existing finish and damaged areas, then explain the treatment and likely result before work begins.
If a stain, scratch, etch mark or damaged area is unlikely to disappear completely, we explain this before starting the work.

Detailed answers about natural-stone worktop and vanity restoration, repairs, finishes, preparation and quotations.
In many cases, professional cleaning, repairs and diamond honing can make a substantial improvement. The final result depends on the stone, its condition, previous treatments and the depth of any damage.
The treatment may include deep cleaning, limescale removal, removing unsuitable coatings, repairing chips or cracks, diamond honing, polishing and applying a suitable impregnating sealer. Not every surface requires every stage.
Light scratches, dull spots and acid etch marks can often be removed or substantially reduced through diamond honing and polishing. Deeper damage may require coarser grinding.
Etch marks are pale, dull or cloudy areas caused when acids react with calcium-based natural stone. Wine, vinegar, lemon juice, fizzy drinks, some cosmetics and limescale removers are common causes.
Suitable damaged areas can often be cleaned and repaired with specialist stone resin, colour-matched wherever practical. The visibility of a repair depends on its size, position and the stone’s natural pattern.
We can often remove or substantially reduce limescale using stone-safe methods. Heavy deposits or etching beneath the scale may require additional honing and polishing.
Many marble and limestone surfaces benefit from a suitable impregnating sealer. Sealing reduces absorbency and supports easier cleaning, but it cannot make stone completely stain-proof or prevent acid etching.
The available finish depends on the type and condition of the stone. We explain suitable options and help you choose a practical finish that complements the existing installation.
Diamond honing is normally completed as a controlled wet process. We protect surrounding areas and use water with the abrasives to help control airborne dust while the stone is refinished.
Please clear small appliances, toiletries and loose items from the working area. We will discuss access, sinks, taps and any fixed items when arranging the work.
