Choosing the right restoration treatment
Can a dull or heavily worn terrazzo floor be improved?
Often, yes. Cleaning can remove contamination, while progressive diamond refinement may reduce surface wear and restore a more even finish. Results depend on the terrazzo, its binder and the depth of damage.
What is the difference between grinding, honing and polishing?
Grinding uses coarser abrasives where substantial correction is needed. Honing progressively refines the surface, and polishing uses finer stages to produce the selected level of sheen. Not every floor needs every stage.
Can you repair holes, pits and cracks?
Suitable local defects may be filled or repaired, but the result depends on stability, depth, available matching materials and the cause. Repairs may remain visible and moving structural cracks require separate advice.
Do cement-based and resin-based terrazzo need the same treatment?
No. The binder and aggregate affect product compatibility, mechanical refinement, repair materials and sealing. The surface should be identified and tested before treatment.
Stains, damage and finishes
Will deep cleaning remove scratches?
No. Cleaning removes soil and residue. Scratches are physical surface damage and normally require controlled mechanical refinement where their depth and the terrazzo construction permit.
Can stains always be removed?
No. Stains are absorbed contaminants and may need a cause-specific treatment or poultice. Success depends on the contaminant, depth, binder and previous attempts, so complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
Can you produce a satin or polished finish?
The achievable finish depends on the terrazzo composition, condition and intended use. We agree an appropriate practical finish before treatment.
Does sealing make terrazzo stain-proof?
No. A suitable impregnating sealer may reduce absorption and staining risk. Spills still need prompt attention, and sealing does not prevent scratching, wear or acid damage to susceptible aggregates.

Where access and site rules allow, evening, weekend or section-by-section work may be discussed. Drying and safe return-to-use time must still be allowed.
Does the area need to be cleared?
