Why does the floor look bad?
It is rarely “just dirt”
Natural stone changes through use. Grit abrades the surface, spills react with calcium based stone, unsuitable cleaners leave residue or damage the finish, and worn sealers allow contamination to penetrate more easily.
That is why repeated mopping can leave a floor looking no better. Sometimes it can make the problem more noticeable.
Acid etching
Wine, lemon, vinegar, fizzy drinks and limescale removers can chemically alter limestone, marble and travertine.

Why choose restoration over replacement?
Professional restoration is often considerably less expensive and disruptive than replacing a natural stone floor. Diamond honing and polishing can remove years of wear, scratches and etching while preserving the stone’s original character.
It also avoids much of the waste and upheaval of lifting an otherwise sound floor. Replacement can affect skirting boards, plinths, fitted units, screed and underfloor heating, potentially adding work, expense and disruption.

Can a dull or badly worn stone floor be restored?
In many cases, yes. Deep cleaning, repairs, diamond honing and polishing can make a substantial improvement. The result depends on the stone, its condition, previous treatments and the depth of damage, which we assess before recommending work.
What is the difference between a stain and an etch mark?
A stain changes the stone’s colour after a substance is absorbed. An etch mark is surface damage caused by an acidic reaction and often looks pale, dull or cloudy. Cleaning alone does not normally remove etching; honing and polishing may be required.
How much does floor restoration cost?
The price depends on the floor area, stone type, condition, access and treatment required. Send photographs, approximate measurements and your location for a free quotation with no obligation. A survey may be recommended for larger or complex projects.
Is diamond honing dusty?
Diamond grinding and honing are normally wet processes. Water is used with the abrasives, helping to control airborne dust while the surface is refinished.
Does natural stone need sealing?
Most porous natural stone benefits from a suitable impregnating sealer. It reduces absorbency and supports easier maintenance, but it cannot make stone completely resistant to stains or prevent acid etching.
How should I clean the restored floor?
Remove loose grit regularly and use a cleaner with a neutral pH that is formulated for natural stone. Avoid bleach, vinegar, acidic products, limescale remover, abrasive cleaners and standard household detergents. We provide aftercare guidance when the work is complete.
