About this marble restoration project

This double marble sink vanity top in Liss, near Petersfield and Haslemere in Hampshire, had become dull, stained and heavily etched. Limescale and water marks were particularly noticeable around the taps, leaving the marble looking tired and in need of professional restoration.

Removing Limescale, Stains & Etch Marks

We began by diamond honing the marble to remove the staining, etch marks and surface damage. The honing process also allowed us to flatten and refine the surface, creating a smooth and consistent finish ready for polishing.

Particular attention was required around both sets of taps, where limescale, etching and staining had built up over time.

Diamond Polishing the Marble Vanity Top

Once the damaged surface had been restored, we progressively diamond polished the marble using various grades of increasingly finer polishing diamonds.

The final stage was powder polishing, which brought out the natural colour and clarity of the marble and produced a beautiful high-gloss, mirror-like finish.

Restoring marble vanity tops can be surprisingly time-consuming. Working closely around taps, sinks and edges provides very little room for polishing equipment, and a large part of the day was spent carefully working around these difficult areas to achieve a consistent finish.

The transformation was fantastic. The previously dull, etched and stained marble vanity top was restored to a smooth, bright and highly polished finish, and the client was extremely happy with the result.

Project notes

From starting condition to finished result

Starting condition

The marble surface was dull and etched from years of cleaning products. Around the taps, there was a heavy build-up of limescale. The whole vanity top just looked dingy, tired and old.

Completed result

The vanity top was fully restored to its original polished finish. Removing the dull, worn appearance revealed a bright, clean surface that looked almost new and transformed the entire bathroom.
