Deep cleaning removes embedded contamination that can make travertine look dark or lifeless.
Professional travertine floor cleaning, repairs, diamond honing, polishing and sealing across Esher, Weybridge, Guildford, Cobham, Oxshott, Woking, Leatherhead, Epsom, Reigate and surrounding Surrey locations.
We restore travertine floors in larger private homes, period properties, contemporary residences and commercial buildings, selecting the treatment around the stone, its condition and the finish you want.
Travertine is naturally porous and contains pits and cavities throughout the stone. Foot traffic, spills, grit and worn sealers can leave tiles looking dull, marked or uneven, while dirty grout and open holes can make the whole floor appear darker.
Acidic substances, including vinegar, lemon juice and limescale remover, can react with the stone and create pale or cloudy etch marks. Age, movement and concentrated impacts can also loosen filler or expose a concealed natural cavity.
We assess the stone before recommending the appropriate combination of cleaning, repair, honing, polishing and sealing. The goal is the best practical finish for your particular floor, rather than a standard treatment applied to every job.
Deep cleaning removes embedded contamination that can make travertine look dark or lifeless.
Diamond honing can reduce dull areas, light scratching, etching and uneven surface wear.
Suitable cracks, chips, open pits and holes can often be filled before final refinishing.
An appropriate impregnating sealer reduces absorbency and supports safer routine cleaning.
Not every floor requires every stage. We inspect the travertine, grout lines, filled areas, existing finish and damage, then explain the treatment and likely result before work begins.
If a stain, scratch, repair or damaged area is unlikely to disappear completely, we explain this before starting the work.
Identify the stone, existing finish, surface wear, grout, filler and repairs required.
Stone-safe products, professional machinery and separate manual grout cleaning.
Clean and fill suitable cracks, chips, open pits and holes, colour-matched wherever practical.
Progressively graded diamonds reduce wear, etching and scratching where appropriate.

Travertine needs products and restoration methods suitable for porous natural stone. We assess the floor, grout lines, filled areas and finish before recommending the work needed to achieve the best practical result.
We understand how travertine, its natural cavities and factory filler respond to cleaning, repairs, diamond abrasives and sealers.
The process is selected for your stone, its condition, the damage present and your preferred finish.
Specialist machinery and graded diamond abrasives enable controlled cleaning, honing and refinishing.
We address grout, edges, corners, open pits and suitable damaged areas as well as the main tile surface.
We explain the intended finish and what can reasonably be achieved before the restoration begins.
We explain suitable cleaning products and practical maintenance after your floor is restored.
Following an assessment, you will receive a clear explanation of the work recommended for your travertine floor. The proposed treatment will take account of the stone’s condition, existing filler, your preferred finish and any repairs that may be necessary.
If a stain, scratch, hole or damaged area is unlikely to disappear completely, we will explain this before work begins.
Genuine customer feedback reflects the care, communication and standard of work we bring to every project.

Travertine contains natural cavities throughout the stone. Foot traffic, impacts, age and movement can cause filler, or a thin layer of stone over a hidden cavity, to break away and reveal a new hole. Suitable holes can normally be cleaned and filled with colour-matched stone resin wherever practical.
Narrow or stiletto-style heels are best avoided, particularly where the stone contains filled holes or weakened filler. A narrow heel concentrates weight onto a small point and may dislodge filler or expose a concealed cavity.
Remove loose grit regularly and use a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for natural stone. Avoid bleach, vinegar, limescale remover, acidic or abrasive products and standard household detergents.
Detailed answers about travertine restoration, repairs, finishes, preparation and quotations.
Travertine is a natural form of limestone composed mainly of calcium carbonate. Mineral-rich water deposits the stone in layers, while gases and organic material leave the pores, channels and cavities that give travertine its distinctive structure.
Filled travertine has its visible surface holes filled with resin or a cement-based material before honing or polishing. Unfilled travertine retains more natural pits and cavities, creating a more textured appearance that requires careful cleaning.
In most cases, professional deep cleaning, resin repairs, diamond honing and polishing can make a substantial improvement. The final result depends on the travertine’s condition, previous treatments and the depth of any damage.
The treatment may include deep cleaning the travertine and grout, removing old treatments, filling cracks or holes, diamond honing, polishing and applying a suitable impregnating sealer. Not every floor requires every stage.
Light scratches, dull spots and acid etch marks can often be removed or substantially reduced through diamond honing and polishing. Deeper damage may require coarser grinding.
Etch marks are pale, dull or cloudy areas caused when acids react with the calcium carbonate in travertine. Wine, vinegar, lemon juice, fizzy drinks and limescale removers are common causes.
Factory-applied filler can deteriorate through age, traffic, impacts, movement, moisture or unsuitable cleaning products. In other cases, a thin section of stone over a concealed cavity can break away and reveal a hole that was naturally present.
Suitable damaged areas can often be cleaned and filled with specialist stone resin, colour-matched wherever practical. Once cured, the repair can be honed and polished to blend with the surrounding floor.
Yes. Our deep-cleaning process includes grout lines, edges and difficult areas. Heavily stained, damaged or previously coated grout may require additional treatment.
Most travertine benefits from a suitable impregnating sealer because it is porous. Sealing reduces absorbency and supports easier cleaning, but it cannot make the stone completely stain-proof or prevent acid etching.
The available finish depends on the type and condition of the travertine. We will explain suitable options and help you choose a practical finish for the room and level of foot traffic.
Properly maintained polished travertine is not necessarily slippery when dry, but like any hard floor it can become slippery when wet, greasy or contaminated. We can advise on a suitable finish for the location.
Diamond grinding and honing are normally completed as wet processes. Water is used with the abrasives, helping to control airborne dust while the travertine is refinished.
The working area should be cleared as much as practical. We will discuss furniture, access and any particularly heavy items when arranging the work.
We work throughout Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex and Hampshire. Contact us with your postcode if you are unsure whether we cover your location.
