Genuine restoration project · Horsham
This impressive chapel mosaic floor and red marble steps at Christ Church School had become heavily soiled, scratched and dull over time. The original finish had been lost, with scratches, cracks, holes and general wear affecting the appearance of both the mosaic flooring and marble steps.
Working within such an impressive chapel made this a particularly memorable natural stone restoration project.
**Diamond Grinding the Mosaic Floor & Marble Steps**
We began by diamond grinding the mosaic floor and red marble steps using specialist diamond abrasives. This allowed us to remove the scratches and surface damage while creating a smooth and consistent finish ready for the finer restoration stages.
Any cracks, holes and damaged areas within the marble were then carefully resin repaired before continuing with the polishing process.
**Diamond Honing & Polishing**
Once the repairs were complete, we progressively diamond honed and diamond skimmed the floor and steps before moving through increasingly finer grades of diamond polishing abrasives.
The final stage involved powder polishing to bring out the colour, clarity and natural beauty of the mosaic floor and red marble, producing a deep and highly polished finish.
Once we were satisfied with the finish, the restored floor and steps were professionally sealed to help protect the stone.
**An Impressive Transformation**
The complete mosaic and marble restoration took our two-man team three days to complete, and the transformation was fantastic.
At certain times of the day, sunlight coming through the chapel illuminated the newly polished floor and marble steps, creating an amazing effect across the restored surface. Unfortunately, the photographs don't quite capture the depth of colour, reflection and overall appearance that could be seen in person.
This was a fantastic and very impressive location to work in, and seeing the original character and beauty of the chapel floor brought back to life made it an especially rewarding restoration project.
